Professional and Medical Skin Care

There are a number of things that determine how quickly our skin ages, including genetic factors such as your natural skin type, environmental factors such as exposure to sunlight and external factors such as whether or not you smoke.

Understanding your skin

Before you can look after your skin properly, you need to understand it. Our body’s largest organ is made up of three layers.

  • The outer epidermis contains pigment cells, the stratum corneum surface layer made up of flat, dead skin cells, and the basal layer where new cells are generated and travel upwards.
  • The middle dermis layer contains blood vessels, nerves, oil glands, collagen fibres and elastin.
  • The inner subcutaneous layer contains blood vessels, hair follicles and fat cells.

Correct skin care helps to keep our outermost surface layer of skin intact. This layer maintains skin’s overall hydration and serves as our primary defence against the environment, so keeping it strong and healthy is critical. Harsh cleansers, for example, can damage the outer layer by stripping essential lipids and moisture. Using a good skin care regimen daily can help preserve this important protective layer. In general, pale skins wrinkle faster than darker skins that are protected by increased amounts of pigment and lipids.

The Power of Retinol from ZO®

ZO® Skin Health has developed a wide range of delivery systems that maximize the effectiveness of vitamin A (retinol) to reduce the signs of aging – fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, and age spots.

Retinol, a vitamin A derivative, is one of the few substances with small enough molecules to penetrate the epidermis and reach skin receptors to stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are the core building blocks of healthy skin.

Is the ZO® range suitable for me?

ZO® Skin Health products provide effective daily skin care and protection from the environment for every patient at every age and stage of their life. Delivering clinically proven results, these programs create and maintain healthy skin that is strong, smooth and firm and evenly toned.
